Bio

For nearly 15 years, Ellen Lee has told stories.

She started her career as a student at UC Berkeley, where she worked on Slant, an Asian American student magazine, and as staff writer, columnist and features editor for The Daily Californian, the school’s independent daily newspaper.

Since then, she’s written for the Contra Costa Tines, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Oregonian and The Washington Post. Most recently, she was a business and technology reporter for the San Francisco Chronicle.

A longtime member of the Asian American Journalists Association, she has served as the chapter president of its San Francisco Bay Area Chapter. Currently, she sits on the organization’s national governing board.

She has mentored young journalists, moderated and spoken at numerous conferences and helped raise thousands of dollars in scholarships.

She once won a radio contest that flew her to Miami for an intimate concert with Lenny Kravitz.

Ellen graduated with honors from UC Berkeley and holds a master’s degree from Columbia’s Graduate School of Journalism.
